The Fall of Man is a mix of role playing campaigns each run by its own Game Master.

The games vary from fantasy D&D lands right down to bloodsuckers in the modern era.

The world as we know it is in a dark age adventurer.

Will mankind find the heroes needed to survive or will they fall away into legend themselves?

The time has come.
Will you heed the call?

 Rules ~ Please Read!
« Thread Started on Nov 30, 2007, 4:10am »

To simplify things I have gathered the three different rule sets for our forum and posted them here.

If you have any questions or suggestions please contact me via pm. Your input is appreciated!

The below rules are mostly common sense, but unfortunately that is a rare thing these days. Following them should be simple, and not following them will get you banned.

All the below rules are subject to change without prior notification.

You can report a member who is breaking the rules anonymously by private messaging me the member's name and/or a link to the offensive post. If you are being harassed, subject to spam or inappropriate behavior please contact me, and I will handle the problem as quickly as possible.

Main Forum Rules
  • Please note that this is a role playing forum. That means all members are required to fill out a character profile, and participate in the game. You can find a character template here. It would also be nice for you to introduce yourself in the anything goes section so we can get to know each other. You don't have to post any private information but at least tell us your age, gender, location, and interests.

  • Do not join this site unless you want to be an active member! I know that people have lives, but if in the first month after you join you can't even say hi...then why are you here? Although we appreciate you joining, this is an online community. One which you must participate in to become a part of. After a month all non posters are deleted.

  • Please be respectful of other members! You may not like another everyone here but you can respect that they have a right to their own opinion and beliefs. Also it is important to remember that just because a person acts a certain way in character does not mean that a person has the same personality in real life. So this means: no harassing, insulting, or threatening will be permitted. Please settle all disputes through your own email/im services.

  • Unfortunately it is against ProBoards' Terms of Service to post any message in any language other than English. It it is a violation which can result in board deletion. So we are forced to immediately delete such posts.

  • If you are caught breaking the rules the first time you will be asked to stop. The Main Rules here are simple enough to follow and don't ask too much. The second time you have to be told your account will be banned for a week. There isn't a third time!

Roleplaying Guidelines
  • Spelling and grammar are your friends.

There's nothing more difficult than trying to decipher something that seems to have been written in a foreign language. I know not everyone is a spelling bee champion or an English wizard, but proboards now has a spell check feature in the reply area. Please use it! It'll make it easier for everyone to understand.

  • Don't abbreviate in character.

When you are in character, things like "lol" or "btw" and other internet lingo is not appropriate. If I wanted to "laugh out loud" it's just as easy to type out "Daniel laughed out loudly." Not so complicated.

  • Keep actions in third person.

Here's a quick example. If I wanted to throw a book across the room, I would write "Daniel throws a book across the room" not "I throw a book across the room." When typing dialogue, it's fine to use I, me, we, etc.

  • Keep things real to your character.

If are a lawful good character or a raving lunatic...then act like it! If you are finding it difficult to stay true to your stats then slowly change them. You can't just alter your identity based on convenience or because the real you is having a bad day.

  • Plot things out.

Some of the best story lines come out of hard work, not just spontaneous posting. So we encourage using the private messaging system to talk to other posters and plan things out. Don't be afraid to ask questions or even use ideas from books, movies, games ect. Although originality is appreciated, sometimes a borrowed idea can get you going in the right direction.

  • Ask questions.

If you're new to role-playing, don't be afraid of asking questions. Use the Help Desk and the Roleplaying Discussion boards to ask people who you like the styles of for tips, suggestions, etc. Most people are going to be happy to help you out.

  • You are only in charge of you. Don't take over other characters.

It's easy to get caught up in the moment and make other people do things they don't necessarily want to do. That's not cool. You can't expect people to work well with you if you're constantly trying to take over who they are or what they want to do. Once again, use the messaging system to your advantage. If you want someone to follow you, ask them. Really simple. You wouldn't want someone to puppeteer your character.

  • Sometimes it's best not to post.

If you can't add anything to what's going on, don't post. People are working on story lines that are important to them. If you're not going to add anything by popping up, don't. Posts that say things like "Hi" or "What are you up to?" aren't going to help the situation anything and can be frustrating for the people who are trying to actually get things going for them. An example of this would be "right now in the lake area, Blare and Ryan have a private conversation going on." It's better to let them keep their thing going. If you want to post about being by the lake, start a new thread or join a different one.

  • Read everything in the posts.

If you're going to jump into a thread, be aware of what's going on. Know who is in the room or who is involved in the situation. Know what happened before, not just what's going on at the moment.

  • Remember this is all a game.

One of the biggest mistakes people can make is to think that just because a character is one way means the person behind the character is really like that too. If you have a feud going on with someone on the main part of the board, it doesn't have to carry over to the OOC (Out of Character) threads. Also people who control the NPC's are two different characters. They have nothing to do with one another.

  • Be creative.

I really don't think I should have to say this one, but it's necessary right now. There's nothing as frustrating as trying to play off a dull or useless post. Think things out before you post them and take time to be clear and unique. Make people want to read threads that you've posted in, not skip over your posts.

  • Don't post in dead threads.

When you are done with a thread...tell a staff member and they will lock it. That way everyone knows you have moved on with the story. Replying to a closed thread will get your posts deleted. Don't take over a thread and just start posting in it if the creator of the thread wants it closed.

Live Chat Rules
Hello members welcome to our live chat room! Although most you surely understand the basic internet etiquette, sometimes guest are allowed in as well so here are some important things to remember.

  • Currently this chat room is only for members. If you are a guest on the board you must receive an invitation in order to be allowed access.

  • The chat room is used for both OOC and Roleplay. When gaming on a scheduled night do not use another member's handle. This will get you banned from the chat room permanently. Please use your own name or a NPC name if appropriate. However for game balance no god like characters can be created unless it it controlled by the GM.

  • If we are gaming in the chat room, use "OCC:" before any out of character remarks, and try to keep them to a minimum.

  • If you would like to role play in a private session just let another member know that when they enter the chat. If they refuse to leave or otherwise are disrespectful then pm me letting me know of the incident. Please remember the golden rule here folks.

  • It's important to treat everyone in the chat room in a respectful manner. Hateful, racist, sexist, homophobic, or ethnically demeaning comments will not be tolerated. So no flaming is allowed, except by dragons and a few pyro-prone magicians.

  • No spamming! Do not advertise products, services, other forums, chatrooms or websites. If someone tries to advertise a service, product or website to you in private message, please inform a Mod. It's fine to share your own personal (non-business) homepage or forum links.

  • When entering the chat room, please take a moment to say "hello". When leaving, let people know you are leaving. While you may not be able to see the people in the chat room face-to-face, you are still entering and leaving a room filled with other people. Saying hello and goodbye is common courtesy.

  • Please do not type in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. This is considered shouting and is also hard on the eyes.

  • Be careful who you give your personal information too. Although most of us are friends outside of the internet, guests are allowed on occasion. Therefore it is important who you share your information with. Although this call is completely up to you, we here at TFOM urge you to be safe!

In you would like additional information about our chat room, click here.
